FBI identifies 20-year-old as suspect in Trump rally shooting

Following the shooting, Trump went to New Jersey, landing early Sunday morning.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks as the gunman who opened fire at a rally for former President Donald Trump.

Crooks, a 20-year-old man from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, is the subject of the FBI investigation.

The former US president was hurt in a gunshot while giving a speech at a campaign event on Saturday.

The FBI described the incident as an assassination attempt.

Although Trump survived the shooting, one person died and two others were seriously hurt.

The bureau said on Sunday:

“The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the subject involved in the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump on July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania.”

The FBI also provided a phone number and website for anyone with information, video, or photos about the shooting.

Following the shooting, Trump went to New Jersey, landing early Sunday morning.

Several international leaders condemned the incident and supported the Republican presidential nominee.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the shooting as an “inexcusable attack”.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky was “appalled,” saying that such “violence has no justification and no place anywhere in the world.”

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed worry about the event, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased, those injured, and the American people.”
