Eight Nigerian teachers set to travel to US to teach Yoruba

Eight Nigerian teachers have been sponsored to travel to the United States for one academic session to teach Yoruba language and culture in universities and colleges.

The teachers will visit the United States as part of the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Programme (FLTA) in 2023.

On Saturday, the US Missions in Nigeria announced this via their Instagram account.

The recipients are expected to enhance their teaching skills and share their experiences in American society to strengthen bilateral relations.

The announcement reads:

“Join us in wishing the 2023 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA) scholars a rewarding teaching assignment!

“Eight Nigerian teachers are departing for the US to teach Yoruba language and culture to American students in universities and colleges for one academic session.

“During the program, participants will refine their skills and extend their knowledge of the society and culture of the US. The participants will also foster stronger ties between Nigeria and the United States.”

The Fulbright FLTA Programme is a nine-month, ECA-funded non-degree programme for early-career English teachers or professionals in related fields. The programme aims for them teach their native language in an American college or university.
