Strike stalls arraignment of Emefiele

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, did not appear in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on Monday, despite an order from Justice Olukayode Adeniyi for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to either release him unconditionally or produce him in court for the hearing of a motion regarding his fundamental rights.

Justice Adeniyi had issued an order last week for Emefiele’s release or court appearance, following his arrest by the EFCC shortly after being released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in late October.

The court has adjourned the hearing of Emefiele’s motion on notice to Wednesday, November 8, and has reaffirmed its November 2 order for Emefiele’s unconditional release or appearance in court on Wednesday.
