Edo Guber: Ex-NBA President, Akpata emerges LP candidate

Akpata scored 316 votes to defeat other aspirants in a landslide victory.

Former National President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Olumide Akpata, has emerged as the Labour Party, LP, governorship candidate in Edo State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Akpata secured 316 votes, triumphing over other contenders at the party’s primary election held in Benin on Friday, February 23, 2024.

Kenneth Imansuangbon garnered seven votes, while Prof. Sunday Eromosele and Sergius Ogun received seven and four votes, respectively.

Emechulu Ikecbukwu, the Chief Returning Officer of the election and Deputy Governor of Abia, declared Akpata as the victor, emphasizing that the party stands for truth, diligence, and transparency. He commended all aspirants for displaying sportsmanship and urged Akpata to foster inclusivity by involving other contenders.

In his acceptance speech, Akpata pledged to uphold good governance if elected as the state governor.
