Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been released from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Bawa was released four months after his arrest by DSS in June.
According to TheCable, he was released a few minutes before 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
Bawa was arrested by the DSS after his suspension as the EFCC chairman and was invited for questioning in relation to an ongoing investigation.
The circumstances of his release remain undisclosed at this time.
“The invitation relates to some investigative activities concerning him,” Peter Afunanya, the DSS spokesperson, had said.
President Bola Tinubu approved the suspension of Abdulrasheed Bawa as the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on June 14.
The suspension came in response to “weighty allegations of abuse of office” leveled against Bawa.
There have been criticisms regarding Bawa’s continued detention without charges, with some lawyers, like Rotimi Jacobs, arguing that it is unconstitutional and a violation of his fundamental human rights.
