The Chicago State University (CSU) has provided Atiku Abubakar with President Bola Tinubu’s academic records upon request.
Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 presidential election, sought these records.
The US district court for the northern district of Illinois issued an order over the weekend, compelling CSU to release Tinubu’s academic records.
Abubakar’s request had sought copies of the diplomas issued in 1997.
He argued that these documents would strengthen his case challenging the president’s electoral victory.
Tinubu filed an appeal against the first order. But the US district court overruled his objection.
In response to Abubakar’s third request, the university stated that the certificates matched the format of the Tinubu replacement dated June 27, 1997.
The university wrote:
“The documents responsive to this request which CSU, after diligent search, has been able to locate are produced herewith and Bates labelled CSU 0008 through CSU 0010. The students’ names on these diplomas have been redacted for privacy reasons. CSU is also producing, Bates labelled as CSU 0011 and 0012, diplomas produced for other CSU students (with their names redacted for privacy) which match the format of the Tinubu replacement dated June 27, 1997”.
As requested by Abubakar, the university released numerous diploma certificates granted to other students in 1979.
Tinubu had previously stated that he lost his original certificates. He provided a replacement CSU diploma to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2023 presidential election.
In recently disclosed CSU documents, Tinubu was referred to as “Mr.” in an admission letter. He also indicated “male” in the undergraduate admissions application form.
Interestingly, some of the transcripts circulating online display “F,” implying “female.”
