A Kano high court has sentenced a Chinese man, Frank Geng-Quangrong, to death by hanging for the murder of his Nigerian girlfriend, Ummukulsum Sani.
Frank faced one count of culpable homicide.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution informed the court that the offence violates Section 221(b) of the Penal Code.
The prosecution used six witnesses and four exhibits to prove its case against the defendant.
The defence counsel, Muhummad Dan’azumi, presented the defendant for self-defence. He also presented one additional witness and five exhibits.
The trial judge, Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji, said on Tuesday that the prosecution team proved their case beyond reasonable doubt.
The judge determined that the defendant’s testimony was inconsistent and that he was guilty of the crime.
On September 16, 2022, Geng-Quangrong stabbed his girlfriend to death at her home in Janbulo quarters, Kumbotso LGA, Kano.
The Chinese national fled the scene following the incident.
The lady was rushed to the hospital, where her death was confirmed.
Days later, Geng-Quangrong was arrested by police.
In his testimony, the Chinese national stated that he did not “intentionally” stab the deceased but did so in self-defense after she grabbed his testes.
