The Abuja High Court has granted bail to Godwin Emefiele, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in the sum of N300 million.
The judge specified that he must produce two sureties with certificates of occupancy and titles of properties within the Maitama district in Abuja.
Emefiele is required to deposit his travel documents with the court registrar. He is also to remain within the Abuja Municipal Council.
Although he was initially granted bail on November 8, he was held in Kuje Correctional Centre until the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
Emefiele filed a fundamental human rights suit challenging his 151-day detention.
On November 18, he was arraigned on a six-count charge bordering on procurement fraud.
Emefiele pleaded “not guilty” to charges of using his position to confer a corrupt advantage by awarding contracts for the procurement of vehicles.
The charges include the procurement of 43 vehicles worth N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020.
