Since achieving international acclaim in 2019, Burna Boy has ascended to the status of a global superstar.
In another groundbreaking achievement, Burna Boy has become the first African artist to completely sell out the Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin, Germany.
This milestone was reached on December 9, 2023, as part of his ‘I Told Them’ world tour, where he filled the 17,000-seat capacity arena.
The Mercedes Benz Arena joins the list of several historic venues that Burna Boy has successfully sold out, solidifying his position as the first African artist to achieve such a feat consistently.
Earlier this year, Burna Boy made history by becoming the first African artist to headline a stadium concert in the United Kingdom, selling out a London stadium.
He further extended his record by being the first African artist to sell out a stadium in the United States with a packed show at the Citi Field stadium in New York.
The year 2023 has marked another impressive chapter in Burna Boy’s career, reinforcing his role as the global face of African music. His seventh album, ‘I Told Them,’ created history by becoming his fourth consecutive album to receive Grammy nominations.
In the nominations for the 2024 Grammys, Burna Boy earned four nods. His hit single ‘City Boy’ secured a nomination for Best African Music Performance, ‘Alone’ was recognized in the category of Best Global Music Performance, and his single ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ featuring 21 Savage received a nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
Notably, this makes him the first Nigerian to be nominated as a lead artist outside of the global categories, further highlighting his impact on the global music scene.
