Access Bank founder, Herbert Wigwe reportedly dies in chopper crash in California

Herbert Wigwe, co-founder of Access Bank and founder of Wigwe University, has tragically passed away in a helicopter crash in California, United States.

Wigwe and five others, including his wife, son and the Group Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), Abimbola Ogunbanjo, were on board the helicopter when it crashed near a border between Nevada and California.

Tragically, there were no survivors, and the United States government has confirmed the deaths of all on board. The crash occurred around 10:00 pm local time near Nipton, California, an unincorporated community about 60 miles south of Las Vegas.

The Federal Aviation Administration has stated that the Eurocopter EC130 helicopter was carrying six people at the time of the crash. Officials from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department were notified of the incident at 10:12 pm local time.

The crash site was located east of Interstate 15, near Halloran Springs Road.

While the New York Times has confirmed the incident, the identities of the passengers have not been disclosed, and no official statement has been released regarding the tragedy.
