AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara, has approved N70,000 as the state’s minimum pay for civil officials.
Hauwa Nuru, Kwara commissioner for finance, stated on Saturday that the new minimum wage will take effect in October.
Nuru further stated that the new compensation package “is a significant move to enhance the welfare of workers in Kwara state.”
The statement reads:
“This decision, which includes consequential adjustments to the relevant salary structures, was made after a successful tripartite meeting.”
“The meeting between government representatives, the leadership of organised labour in Kwara state—the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC)—and representatives from the organized private sector.”
Nuru praised the governor for allowing autonomy to the new minimum wage committee, noting that his prompt implementation demonstrated a proactive and worker-friendly attitude.
The commissioner underlined the governor’s commitment to civil servants’ welfare, noting that the increase will apply to personnel in Kwara’s 16 local government areas.
She also praised the government’s work with labour unions for approving the N70,000 minimum wage.
In July, President Bola Tinubu signed the minimum wage bill into law, raising workers’ pay packages from N30,000 to N70,000.
