A second-year law student from the University of Ibadan is in custody following allegations of raping a first-year female classmate within the campus premises.
The reported incident transpired when the victim, studying with peers for an upcoming exam, moved to the Students’ Union building for a nap during a power outage in the lecture hall.
According to the victim, she awoke to unwarranted advances from the suspect, who allegedly subdued her attempts to scream by restraining her neck.
The assault was interrupted when another student entered the building, prompting the suspect to flee. The victim sustained injuries to her neck, lips (resulting from a bite), and private areas.
University authorities have verified the occurrence and are actively investigating the matter. The suspect was detained until late Tuesday, and the Dean of Students Affairs is overseeing the investigation.
The Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, stated that the accuracy of the allegation will be determined upon the conclusion of the investigation.
