Hope Uzodinma, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has won the Imo governorship election in a landslide victory.
Uzodinma secured the majority of votes by winning in all 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
He garnered 540,308 votes, defeating Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 71,503 votes, and Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP), who secured 64,081 votes.
Abayomi Fashina, the returning officer for the Imo gubernatorial poll, officially declared Uzodinma’s victory.
“I, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fashina, the returning officer, hereby, declare that Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC), having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected,” Fashina said.
Hope Uzodinma became governor in January 2020 following a Supreme Court verdict that nullified the election of Emeka Ihedioha.
He secured the majority of votes by winning in all 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state.
The election had some incidents of violence, with a fight breaking out between party agents at the collation centre.
The fight resulted in the LP party agent being beaten and removed.
Despite the disruptions, Uzodinma’s victory was officially declared by the returning officer for the Imo gubernatorial poll.
