The Niger state government has finalized plans to acquire gas-operated vehicles for both inter and intra city services across the state.
This initiative is part of the measures taken to mitigate the impact of the federal government’s removal of fuel subsidies.
Governor Mohammed Umar Bago announced this during the official swearing-in of sixty Commissioners and Special Advisers at the Justice Legbo Kutigi Hall in Minna on Monday.
He also mentioned that transportation fares would be reduced.
Governor Bago appealed for patience from the state’s residents, acknowledging the hardships they are facing.
He assured them that his administration is working on providing palliatives to alleviate their suffering.
The governor emphasized his commitment to the welfare of the people of Niger state and urged Nigerians to embrace farming to fight poverty.
He also mentioned efforts to engage in dialogue with bandits to encourage peace and allow farmers to return to their fields without fear.
The newly sworn-in members of the state executive council and Special Advisers were urged to positively impact their communities.
Barrister Morice Bello Magaji, the newly sworn-in Commissioner of Lands and Survey, spoke on behalf of the others, pledging their commitment to serve with dignity, respect, and humility.
Out of those sworn in, 30 are commissioners and the other 30 are Special Advisers in various fields.
Governor Bago further approved the appointment of 131 women as Senior Special Assistants (SSA) and Coordinators in his government, in line with his promise to involve women in his administration.
He encouraged them to contribute to the success of his administration’s policies. Of the 131 appointments, 90 are Senior Special Assistants (SSA) and 41 are Coordinators.
