The arraignment of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been rescheduled to August 23 due to the absence of some defendants in the case.
Emefiele faces charges alongside Sa’adatu Yaro, a CBN employee, and her company, April1616 Investment Limited, on various counts of procurement fraud, conspiracy, and conferring corrupt advantages.
Emefiele had been previously arraigned on charges of “illegal possession” of firearms, for which he was granted bail.
A dispute between the Department of State Services (DSS) and prison officials led to his re-arrest after initially being granted bail.
The DSS withdrew an application seeking to detain him further after a jurisdictional concern.
Moreover, on August 3, the federal government filed an application to appeal against the bail granted to Emefiele.
Recently, on August 15, the federal government orally applied to withdraw the charge of “illegal possession of firearms” against him.
