A group of labour officials, including the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, have come together for a peaceful protest at Unity Fountain in Abuja.
Among them are representatives from the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, and the National Union of Road Transport Workers.
They are all protesting against the increase in fuel prices and policies labelled “unfriendly” and “anti-poor” by the NLC, which they believe the President Bola Tinubu administration has failed to reverse.
The Unity Fountain, situated in the centre of Abuja, has consistently been the focal point for significant demonstrations in the city over the years.
For instance, the #BringBackOurGirls protest that was organized to commemorate the Chibok schoolgirls who were abducted from Borno State was initiated at this location.
Similarly, other protests like the #EndSARS remembrance and #RevolutionNow movements also commenced here.
At present, the NLC and other demonstrators have assembled and preparing for the protest.
