President Bola Tinubu has declared that Africa will prevent the recurrence of past coups on the continent.
Addressing the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Tinubu affirms Africa’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law.
In a previous report, Tinubu was elected Chairman of the ECOWAS Presidents’ League.
The election took place during the 63rd Ordinary Session of the regional bloc held in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau.
Tinubu emphasizes, “We will not tolerate repeated coups in Africa.”
“We will take democracy seriously with African Union and extend the same to the European Union including Britain and America.
After receiving handover documents from the outgoing chairman, President Umaro Embaló of Guinea-Bissau, Tinubu affirms the value of democracy.
He stated that democracy is challenging to manage but remains the best form of government.
The ECOWAS Chairmanship rotates among the heads of state or government of member countries for a one-year tenure.
