A fire broke out on Thursday, engulfing the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
The incident caused panic among hospital staff and patients, with the fire starting around 2 pm.
Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, said that the fire resulted from overheated equipment at the ICT unit. Fortunately, there were no casualties recorded in the incident.
Fabamwo disclosed that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service swiftly responded to the scene, containing the fire within the room of its origin to prevent it from spreading further.
The LASUTH CMD said, “It was a mild fire and it was put out within five minutes. There is no fire incident, it’s been exaggerated. In our ICT room, there was overheating of some equipment and then, there was a spark.
“And immediately, we called the fire service and they came and put it out. That is all. No loss of life and no injuries were recorded.”
The CMD, however, said, “Well, there will be damage, but no casualty. But some furniture and appliances were involved. It happened between 2 and 3 pm. The fire service is just opposite us. So, they came in less than two minutes and put it out.”
