The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) plans to launch a self-service application for Nigerians in the diaspora to easily enrol for their National Identification Number (NIN).
The initiative was revealed on Monday during a strategic meeting between Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chair of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCom) and Ayodele Babalola, technical adviser to the DG/CEO on media and communications.
Babalola added that the application will go live in February.
The statement reads:
“As part of the process, a dedicated Diaspora Focal Point Desk will be established at the NIMC office to ensure swift resolution of issues within 24 hours.”
“This customer-centric approach aims to provide efficient support to Nigerians abroad in line with the agency’s commitment to quality service delivery.
“The strategic collaboration marks a significant milestone in leveraging technology to enhance the accessibility of critical identity services for Nigerians in the Diaspora.”
According to the statement, Dabiri-Erewa thanked the NIMC delegation for the innovative solution.
The NiDCom chair emphasised the importance of the new system. Erewa praised its ability to easily link NIN with international passports for Nigerians living outside of the country.
In response, Coker-Odusote stated that the initiative is consistent with her commitment to improving service delivery and creating a convenient system for Nigerians abroad.
She thanked NiDCom for its assistance and expressed confidence in the success of the collaborative effort.
