Safiyanu Isa-Andaha, the chairman of Akwanga LGA in Nasarawa who gunmen kidnaped, has been released.
Gunmen had kidnapped Isa-Andaha in Ningo village on Monday.
Ramhan Nansel, the state police spokesperson, confirmed his release in a message on Wednesday, saying the chairman was released around 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Nansel stated that no ransom was paid to secure Isa-Andaha’s release. He added that he was freed after security personnel applied pressure on the abductors.
Nansel stated that Isa-Andaha and three others had been released and would reunite with their families after undergoing medical examinations.
He said:
“No ransom was paid. The chairman and the person the abductors contacted confirmed to us that no dime was paid.”
“They were released at about 8:40pm due to sustained pressure mounted on them by our operatives deployed on their trail.”
Nasarawa is one of the north-central states plagued by bandits and gunmen.
