The federal government has declared December 25 and 26, as public holidays, as well as January 1, 2024.
The holidays were announced by the Ministry of Interior on Friday in a statement signed by Peter Egbodo, a director at the ministry.
The public holidays will commemorate Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day, respectively.
According to the statement, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo urged Christians to “emulate the life of Jesus Christ in His practice and teachings of humility, service, compassion, patience, peace, and righteousness that His birth represents.”
According to the minister, peace and security are two essential conditions for economic development and prosperity.
He stated that the federal government has put measures in place to protect lives and property and urged Nigerians to assist security agencies by providing information.
He also urged Nigerians to be security-conscious and to report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
Tunji-Ojo urged all citizens to “remain focused,” noting that “the year 2024 will be a better year with the President’s Renewed Hope agenda.”
