18 pupils hospitalised after eating free meal in Osun, govt begins probe

The government has assured that the medical bills of the affected students have been settled, and they have been treated and discharged.

Eighteen students from St James Primary School B, Owoope, Osogbo, were reportedly hospitalized after consuming a mid-day meal provided through the free school feeding program initiated by the Governor Ademola Adeleke administration.

In response to the incident, the Osun State Government has launched investigations and temporarily suspended the free meal program at the affected school until the investigation’s outcome is determined.

The implicated cooks from the affected schools and the planning officer for the O-Meal program are required to attend a meeting scheduled for Tuesday morning, as stated by the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Alimi.

Governor Adeleke has directed the enforcement of food standards and controls, along with an audit of the O-Meal structure to prevent future occurrences.
